Seven new cool features in iOS 14

iOS 14 is the biggest iOS update of 2020. Apple has added a lot of new improvements to the OS for iPhones. For instance, the home screen gets a makeover, and you no longer get a full-screen notification when you receive a call, but instead, a handy pop-up. We list the most important changes for you.

1. Widgets

Apple is known for its home screen that cannot be customized. For a few years now, it has been possible to add handy widgets to an info screen when you swipe left. It is now possible to place these widgets among your app icons. Unsure between two widgets for one spot? You can easily stack them, allowing you to swipe through them. Handy, right?

2. App Library

Anyone who has ever worked with an Android device knows this feature: the application library. By swiping all the way to the right in iOS 14, you get a handy overview of all apps with a convenient search bar. This way, you can quickly find the app you're looking for without having to scroll through five tabs. For everyone who uses many apps on their iPhone, this is an ideal addition.

3. Call and Siri pop-ups

You know the situation, you're in the middle of writing an email or typing a message on WhatsApp, and you get a call. Immediately, everything on your screen disappears. Not exactly up to date in this era where we multitask all day, right? In iOS 14, the full-screen disappears when you receive a call. Instead, you only get a handy pop-up at the top of your screen. You can answer or swipe up to ignore the call. Siri also no longer appears in full screen but as a small bubble at the bottom of your screen.

4. App Clips

Nowadays, there seems to be an app for everything. It can be quite annoying to download an app for everything, especially if you know you won't use it often. Apple has come up with something for this in the form of Apple Clips. With Apple Clips, you can easily install a light version of an app temporarily via a QR or NFC code. This allows you to, for example, make a payment in a restaurant or view the line-up during a festival. When you're done with the app, it deletes itself from your iPhone.

5. Multitasking: Picture-in-picture mode

Some people are already familiar with the picture-in-picture mode from the iPad or WhatsApp. Instead of a full-screen video, the video you click on appears in a handy pop-up. This allows you to do other things with your iPhone at the same time. Ideal when you want to check your calendar during a FaceTime call!

6. Change default apps

Do you prefer Chrome over Safari? It can be quite annoying when you want to open a link from WhatsApp, and it automatically opens in Safari. In iOS 14, it is possible to change your default apps. This way, you can set Chrome as your default browser.

7. Tapping

The update includes a very handy tap option! For example, you can set it so that when you double-tap the back of your iPhone, your iPhone takes a screenshot. You can customize the action yourself. Do you want to download iOS 14? It is available from the iPhone 6S and newer. We recommend downloading this update. Not only will you be guaranteed all the fun new features mentioned above, but you will also ensure that your iPhone is fully secured!
